Carl Hauck Lyrics and analysis, Permission and Blog reflection 2

Recently I have had trouble getting permission from our original artist as the process of hearing back from him was quite slow. As in a result to that I looked into other artists that could suit similarly what I intended from the beginning. So I looked into a similar genre and found an artist based in the very heart of America and when I first heard his songs I was really impressed. The music and the lyrics were wonderful, they matched so well and set the mood. Instantly it matched with my original ideas but also made me think of new ideas too, to what I could add just from hearing the song. I chose one of his latest songs called 'Windjammer' and when I first heard it, I instantly thought of artists like Ben Howard, Jason Mraz because it sounded similar to their genre of music.
These are the lyrics to his song called 'Windjammer':

Summer bells at the crossroad
Charcoal smells in the air
Children scuttle with their claws stretched
Empty pockets, cluttered mouths

Restless limbs of an ash tree
Swatting every crab apple aimed for the street
Where a scrawny traffic dodger springs
Darting nimbly, dropping leaks

Cinder crackles from the rock bed
As splinters burrow in a hasty step
Coupled drudges in the shade of a pine
Heaving mallets at railroad ties

A search at dusk for a shoestring
Or a finger poking out
Cautious whispers from a vantage
In the witch's battered hedge

Sterile comfort in the wood fort
Earth and scarlet painted joints
Linen spirits in the closet door
Imagined trappings of a boy

Eyes wide, night light on
Blinds and curtains drawn

It's a thieves dream
Analysis of lyrics:
These lyrics tell a lot about the genre of music being an indie folk record we know that some sort of nature and real life aspects are going to be included in it. The lyrics show aspects of summer and nature of plants and earth which could signify the artist. In order to apply these lyrics to match the shots we needed to show the artist in this sort of background he is explaining to get the signifier in there and make it clear to the audience. This could also match to what our ideal audience member is being vintage people they would want to see naturistic features and vintage clothing and props. This is why we included checkered shirt and tan shoes following the most important prop in the video, the guitar. Due to their being a guitar throughout the song it was important to carry out this feature to show the artist performance and it made sense for it to be shown. The lyrics that we are going to use as a performance in the video are going to be set in one place which we will then cut back to when editing. Overall these lyrics show a calming aspect and it would be wrong if we didn't put that forward to our target audience because that is probably what they would expect from this sort of genre and too the props from the artist.

Blog Reflection: Week 2.
My ideas for my work have progressed over this week by teaming up with my partner and together we have discussed ideas and put it towards what we could do for our video. This week we also had done a music pitch to the class explaining what we are thinking in terms of artist, shots, equipment and so on. From this we also got feedback from our peers and they also helped us on ideas and praised us for the ideas we came up with ourselves. I hope that the project goes well and I know I've made a good decision teaming up with my partner because I can trust him and work well with him. Overall I was glad with feedback and this week.
