Analysis of Erick Baker's Comfort You.

The target audience for this song could be any age but mostly from mid teens to middle aged people. The reason to this is because it sounds like a song for everyone and isn't really aged specified, however this could be preferred more by women more than men just purely because a male singer is singing it but it could be preferred by both. The audience that should be interested in this song should also like other sorts of acoustic songs. For example artists like Ben Howard and a specific song would be 'Only Love' as it has that element of the acoustic guitar that creates the symphony of the whole song:

Another artist is Jason Mraz and also shares that acoustic element which is the main feature of his songs throughout. Again also related to Ben Howard and Erick Baker himself the song has that touching element which lets the audience put themselves into the artists position and think and appreciate what they are listening to. A specific song that creates this is 'I Won't Give Up' which is off his latest album and combines well with the sort of audience that would like Erick Baker:

The lyrics of this song are as follows:
Broken whisper I can hear you crying tonight
Empty words and arms can’t make it alright
You’ve run out of questions without answers to hold
For the cold caress of helplessness inside you

But let me comfort you
Comfort you

You’re losing hope in little memories everyday
The red hairs on the floor are being swept away
Well I can’t fix what’s broken but I’ll hold the pieces in place
Just let me put my loving arms around you

And let me comfort you
Comfort you

We’ll load your gun with silver bullets
To kill the monsters in your room
A kiss to wash the ashes from your mouth
Your bleeding knees of prayer
Pressed lips against your heart
Dance with your shadow in the open doorway lights

I’ll protect you as you lay there helpless in sleep
From the heartbreaking flowers in the Magnolia trees
Don’t let your life forget to forgive what it has done
Don’t let it take the love left inside you

And let me comfort you
Comfort you

The lyrics to this song almost tell a story to us the audience listening to it and almost reflect something felt by Erick himself which audiences can relate to. It is like a love story as the lyrics are deep and seem to be written for someone special and we can also tell this by the way he sings the lyrics. The music supports this having the guitar and piano but most importantly the violin in the background could symbolise as a instrument of love and can relate to the message he is trying to signify. The tempo is very steady as it is slow and soft which relates well to the lyrics and the harmony as it wouldn't be a right match if the tempo was fast and sounded like a dance track because the instruments and the slowness of the song needs to be that way in order to symbolise and get the message across.
How i would apply this into a music video is by taking the lyrics and the music into account and make them the main feature of the video. My partner and I have already discussed some ways to show this and we thought scenery and other sort of landscapes in the background of shots would go well. As the song is something that would get the person listening to stop and think and they say the same about nature about how we should stop and appreciate and the lyrics and the music kind of support that idea which is why we intended to have some sort of element like that.

Erick Baker - Comfort You

The reason why we chose this song was because of the way we first heard it once we started playing it. The harmony and the way Erick Baker was singing at first was very soft and in time with the piano, guitar and the violin and it just fitted really well with the whole song put together. The lyrics also fitted well with music and made it sound like we were put in the situation of the story he was telling within the lyrics and I like it when a song makes you feel in the artists position feeling the pain within the lyrics which is really touching. The song can also reflect audiences and is why it's a perfect song to produce into a music video. The shots and the lyrics will be able to create a music video that reflects too and also with this song you could make it into a storyline and being able to stay connected with the true meaning in the song.
